Hands on Peru (HOP) – Summer 2018. Volunteer in Huanchaco, Peru this summer with Hands On Peru! There are three programs to choose from: volunteering in the medical clinic (Hands to Care), teaching English to schoolchildren (Hands to Teach), and building homes for those in need (Hands to Build). Medical classes will be provided to those volunteering at the medical clinic; therefore, no previous experience is required. You would have the opportunity to be hosted by a Peruvian family and be fully immersed into Peru’s beautiful culture. Part-Time Research Assistant – Summer 2018 Opportunity. Dr. Nina Freund is a Williams Alumna from the class of 1986. She is a child and adolescent psychiatrist in private practice in New York City and on the faculty of Weill Cornell Medical College. Dr. Nina Freund seeks a college student to assist with a research project in response to the escalating use of e-cigarettes among children and teenagers. The research project includes the study of existing measures for prevention and education surrounding e-cigarettes, as well as developing strategies that could be used in schools in the future. Part-time (approximately 20 hours per week) for about 8 weeks; $13.50/hr (Not eligible for ASIP funding); Work remotely, so no need to be in NY; Start date to be negotiated. Requirements: Curiosity about behavior and the child and adolescent mind. Passion to improve the public interest. Local PH Internship Opportunity Summer 2018 – Berkshire Nursing Families is recruiting to fill 2 full-time internship positions to work within our program in summer of 2018. BNF is located at the North Adams Regional Hospital. Berkshire Nursing Families provides education, lactation consultation, a 7-day-a-week breastfeeding hotline, and home visits – all of which are free of charge – to every family who needs them. The intern will assist in the development and operations of various programs and initiatives both at the BNF office and playgroups, and out in the community, with a heavy focus on marketing and communication of services to the Berkshire community. PH service-learning opportunity – The Courier Program is an eight week, rural and public health, service-learning program with a rich and adventuresome history that targets college students with interest in public health, healthcare or a related field.
